Most everyone remembers the Vanity Fair cover with a pregnant Demi Moore posing nude. What a stir that caused but I thought it was magnificent! Lately, I’ve had a number of maternity sessions, including a few nude and semi-nude maternity shoots inspired by that iconic magazine cover. As an artist, I love photographing nudes and the feminine body is truly a work of art. Granted we all feel differently about our bodies and pregnancy doesn’t typically change how we feel about it so posing nude may not be something that every woman will consider doing. You know your comfort zone when it comes to your own body. Maternity photos should be beautiful, and semi-nude maternity photos in particular can be a great way to celebrate the female form. Do it for you. Do it for your partner. Remember, your body is incredible and you deserve to flaunt the strength and beauty you are radiating.
Some women are more self-conscious about their bodies when they’re pregnant, and that’s understandable. Semi-nude maternity photos can be an empowering experience, but a maternity session with beautiful gowns and accessories can be too. Remember that we can always go for something in-between. Many of my clients like to have some images wearing the gowns from my client closet, and then some images with an open top and jeans, or pretty lingerie – while still having everything “covered up.” You may not even know in advance if you will feel comfortable doing semi-nude photos but I’ll be ready if you decide you want to give it a try. Your privacy and comfort is key for me so we will go slow and you will never be asked to do something that makes you uneasy. You may bring a partner with you of course if it makes you more relaxed or you want to include them in the photo session. I have an experienced female assistant who will help you with robes and movement so you don’t expose more than you are comfortable revealing. This also applies to your physical comfort, like keeping you warm or cool, and also your emotional comfort and sense of safety and security. The studio provides us with a private safe space where you can celebrate your body and your strength. This is the key: Choose an experienced professional photographer that you trust. One who knows how to make you feel comfortable and look like the fabulous Queen that you are.
I offer Studio Maternity sessions with access to the client closet of gowns and accessories, outdoor environment sessions, or a combination of both. Be sure to check out FAVORITE THINGS on the website for more information or email me info@karendoody.com and let’s chat!
