Sweet Serendipity
I never saw this coming. It was not my intent to focus my attention on maternity photography. It just sort of happened unexpectedly. It slowly crept into my mind until I couldn’t ignore it. I kept telling myself that I’m a wedding and family photographer all the while ignoring that spot smack dab in the middle of those two life events. Typically my maternity clients are couples whose wedding I've photographed and have come back to me during this magical time in their lives. We have already built a relationship of trust so I am thrilled when they reach back out. Seeing them again after their wedding day makes my heart full ('cuz I love my couples) and then to see their family growing and how loving they are again, it makes me melt. Visually, as an artist who has always loved the human form, photographing women when they are carrying a child really speaks to me creatively. I love the curve of the back, the roundness of the belly, the fullness in the body as it creates this new life. All of that, the love, the natural beauty has led me to this—growing my maternity line.
Finding out you are going to be parents will easily be one of the greatest moments of your life. Watching your body change and transform as you create your baby is exciting. A maternity photo session is a great way to document your journey into motherhood. It can capture your story and experiences. Through your maternity photos, you can show how incredible your body is and what it is capable of creating. More importantly, these photos capture such a special moment in your life, allowing you to look back and enjoy them in the future. Maternity photo sessions are about life and connection.
What is the best time for your maternity photos? It’s when you feel it is the right time, when you feel good, comfortable and ready. While I say 30-36 weeks is the most ideal time to take maternity photos, it may not be perfect for you. All pregnancies are not the same. The start of your third trimester is the perfect time for a maternity photoshoot. If you decide to schedule your photos sooner, just consider the size of your belly and if you are happy with the size of your bump.
If you are like me, you may struggle to decide what to wear on just a normal day, so finding the perfect outfit for your maternity photography session could be stressful! I want you to look and feel your best at your session so once you have booked with me, we will discuss how to choose the perfect outfits. I also have a “client closet” with beautiful dresses, robes and accessories for you to borrow at your session. Remember, your body is incredible and you deserve to flaunt the strength and beauty you are radiating.
Sure, you could have a friend with their fancy camera copy a few photos you’ve seen on Pinterest but when you hire a professional photographer, your photos will be the ones your friends will ooooh and ahhhh over.
